J-H Cattle Co. Meat Store sits on Route 66 in Joplin, Missouri, and it runs on a simple idea: own the whole chain. Lifelong cattleman Roger Hines and business partner Brian Jordan don't buy beef from suppliers. They raise it.
Their herd of certified, DNA-verified American Wagyu Akaushi cattle grazes on the family farm near Waco, Missouri, minutes from Joplin. Grass fed, grain finished, and raised with no hormones, antibiotics, or implants. Every calf is genetically evaluated for purity and pedigree. Local farmers supply the corn, hay, and silage.
Inside the store, three butchers cut to order. Smoked meats are made in house. Spices are blended on site. The shelves carry Missouri Amish goods, local cheeses, and pickled items, plus pork and chicken raised in Missouri. Handmade sandwiches run Monday through Saturday.
The work has been recognized three years running: 2024 Best of the Four States Butcher Shop, 2025 Gold Winner Best of Southwest Missouri Place to Buy Meat, and 2026 Winner Best Place to Buy Meat in Southwest Missouri.
More than 40 years of cattle experience, one counter, and full control from birth to the butcher block.
